Mount Dean Stone Update
It's been a weird year for volunteering, but we've finally got some socially-distanced group events coming. This summer, Five Valleys Land Trust and MTB Missoula have been hard at work on a new trail to Mount Dean Stone called "High, Wide, and Handsome". It's a 4-mile long route with 23 switchbacks, and is easy to climb, multi-use, and bike friendly, with gorgeous vistas all the way up. HWH is a big part of the larger Mount Dean Stone project we've been working on for a number of years.
Now, we need your help to get it finished before the snow flies! Scheduling and registration info is below.
A Note on Access:
While we are extremely excited to share the new trail, please keep in mind that the trail is CLOSED to public access and is on private property until 2021. These volunteer days will be the only opportunity to get an early look at it. We encourage you to enjoy your time up on Dean Stone while helping us complete the trail, but refrain from further exploration until next year.

MTBM will be hosting Tuesday digs on HWH for the next few weeks, and working with FVLT to host larger weekend digs as well. Due to shuttle logistics and COVID precautions, attendance to these events will be capped at 16-20 people and is RSVP-only, so make sure to sign up early.
Work will mostly consist of raking gravel and smoothing the trail surface with hand tools. COVID precautions are necessary: you'll need to bring a mask along with your own food and water for all events. Tools will be provided. We won't have to wear masks while working as long as social distance guidelines are followed, but masks are mandatory for the carpool shuttle. Hand sanitizer will be provided and tool sharing will be minimized. With the private property and access situation, the shuttle is also necessary, so there isn't a shuttle-free alternative. Shuttles will be 4-to-a-car with windows rolled down.
